چکیده
The aim of this research project was to determine the extent to which neck pain is present in violin/viola players and to investigate if fine motor control and dexterity are influenced by dysfunctions as such. This is important to know as impairments in dexterity are expected to have an impact on motor control in violin/viola playing and contribute to a decrease in performance excellence. Playing-related musculoskeletal disorders (PRMD) are a common problem in musicians. Growing evidence demonstrates that up to 80% of musicians experience pain within their musculoskeletal system during musical perform-Neck pain is a frequent complaint of violin and viola players. Between 20-28% of violin/viola players reported suffering from neck pain in studies investigating PRMD (Fishbein et al. 1988, Ackerman and Adams 2003). Neck pain is known to be associated with various changes in motor control. Impairment of deep cervical flexors is a common feature in neck pain and contributes to altered muscle activation patterns during various functional tasks of the head and shoulder region (Falla 2004a, 2004b). Additionally , there is evidence of sensory changes and sensorimotor alterations with

Due to the high physical and psychological demands of their work, musicians have a high risk of developing a range of health problems. The main causes of musculoskeletal disorders seen in instrumentalists are overuse, nerve compression and focal dystonia. The aim of this paper is to identify the musculoskeletal disorders that most frequently affect professional violinists and violists. 50 artic...
متن کاملTHE EFFECT OF TWELVE WEEKS OF SENSORIMOTOR EXERCISES ON DISTRIBUTION PLANTAR PRESSURE VARIABLES AND SYMMETRY INDEX IN PATIENTS WITH PATELLOFEMORAL PAIN SYNDROME: A RANDOMIZED DOUBLE-BLIND CLINICAL TRIAL
Background & Aims: In patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome, the presence of pain, proprioception, and neuromuscular disorders leads to posture control disorder, which causes abnormal distribution plantar pressure. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of twelve weeks of sensorimotor exercises on distribution plantar pressure variables and symmetry index in patients wi...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of neck coordination exercise on sensorimotor function in women with neck pain compared with best-available treatment and sham treatment. DESIGN Observer-blinded randomized controlled trial with short-term and 6-month follow-ups. SUBJECTS Women with chronic non-specific neck pain were randomized to 3 groups: neck coordination exercise with a novel training d...
متن کاملThe effect of balance training on cervical sensorimotor function and neck pain.
The authors' aim was to evaluate the effect of balance training on cervical joint position sense in people with subclinical neck pain. Thirty-four participants were randomly assigned to balance training or to stay active. Sensorimotor function was determined before and after 5 weeks of training by assessing the ability to reproduce the neutral head position and a predefined rotated head positio...
متن کاملReduced head steadiness in whiplash compared with non-traumatic neck pain.
OBJECTIVE While sensorimotor alterations have been observed in patients with neck pain, it is uncertain whether such changes distinguish whiplash-associated disorders from chronic neck pain without trauma. The aim of this study was to investigate head steadiness during isometric neck flexion in subjects with chronic whiplash-associated disorders (WAD), those with chronic non-traumatic neck pain...
